About YMAD

YMAD has five co-founders (of which four are youth, four are women and all are black). This team of five co-founders comprises a range of various specialists and high levels of expertise within each individual’s work niche.

Khan Road Recycling Hub

The YMAD Recycling Hub projects seeks to address the negative environmental and climate change consequences of poor waste management and within the claasified poor to middle class communities in 6 projects areas which are situated in informal settlements and townships in and around Pietermaritzburg, Howick and Durban surrounding regions in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The Republic of South African Constitution (1996), Section 24 of The Bill of Rights states that everyone has the right to an environment which is not harmful to their health or well-being. However, the informal settlements and township communities in South Africa are being deprived of their human rights, due to the illegal dumping that continues to happen near the settlements and the lack of proper waste collection services by the relevant authorities.
